Can anyone join RTC?

RTC is, at its heart, an inclusive musical theatre company. As a company founded by Durham alumni, we wanted to build on our shared experiences there, maintaining the high standard and professional ethos of the Durham drama societies and the pride felt in bringing people together with a passion for theatre. Whilst many of our members are Durham alumni, we have been delighted to welcome new joiners who did not attend the university to our society through a referral system. More information can be found on our membership page.

What does it cost to be part of RTC?

At RTC, we don't charge a membership fee. We believe that you should only pay if you're in one of our shows. Instead we charge a performance levy similar to, if not cheaper than, other amateur companies. This is always detailed in the run up to shows so people know what to expect when they sign up, and should any show fee as a barrier to your participation, we are always happy to provide support where we can.

Where does the money from RTC performances go?

RTC is a not-for-profit company: all of the proceeds from our productions go back into the company to fund future shows, and future generations of Rollers.

When are rehearsals held?

RTC rehearsals are held weekly on a Tuesday night, though this can vary from production to production. In addition to this, rehearsals sometimes take place at the weekend.

What ability / experience is needed?

At RTC, we believe in creating high-quality musical theatre in a fun and inclusive way. As such, we do prefer that members have some experience in musical theatre, and feel confident singing, acting and dancing on stage, however this is not an absolute pre-requisite.

RTC is run by an Executive Committee. The current Exec can be found here, and are responsible for everything from budgets to branding, and from venue booking to social media.

Who runs the RTC productions?

A production team is appointed for each performance, whether cabaret or fully-licensed show. The production team control the creative direction & execution of each show, from audition to closing curtain.

We present one fully-licensed musical theatre show a year. In order to support this, we also put on a musical theatre cabaret over three nights. This is not only a great fundraising opportunity, but also provides a chance for our members to perform songs they may otherwise never get a chance to.
